pydance is a dancing game written in Python, formerly named pyDDR. The
idea is simple. There’s a floor mat with arrows, and the game scrolls
arrows up the screen to the beat while playing a song. When the arrows
reach the top of the screen (not sooner and not later), the player
hits the corresponding arrow on the pad, and given that it’s hit on
time with the beat, points are scored. Based on how well the dance is
put together, s/he is graded at the end of the song. Both keyboard and
mat play are supported.

Changes: This release includes support for song lyrics (with translation line), with a ’showlyrics’ option. Crossfading song banners now work in the song selector, and also show on startup. The load time has been dramatically improved, and there is now prerender time for smoother gameplay. Configuration options ’showbackground’ (turn off for better framerate) and ‘arrowspin’ have been implemented, sprite priorities were fixed, the announcer ‘none’ can be used again, and utilities that are new or updated include findbpm (tap out beat times), lyrictag (write STEP file lyric data), and DWI2STEP (much more accurate).

Changes: This distribution is available for purchase as a
lighweight boxed set that includes 1 CD and a
handbook. You can also download a package tree or
an ISO image. It features an enhanced desktop
which includes KDE 3.0.1, GNOME 1.4,
OpenOffice.org 1.0, Mozilla 1.0, and more, with an
additional development CD available. Supported
languages include English, Russian, Ukrainian,
Belarussian, German, and French.
